I have been a professional commercial drone pilot for several years, primarily specialising in filming rather than still photography. Last month, I was delighted to be commissioned by Rosslyn Chapel to produce a series of aerial photographs of the Chapel and the nearby Rosslyn Castle.
Setting out early in the morning, I aimed to capture the sunrise over Rosslyn Glen. The quality of light in Scotland during October is exceptional, and it remains one of my favourite times of year to shoot. The autumn foliage provides a stunning palette of colour, and the atmosphere is often beautifully crisp and clear.
I was able to capture a strong initial set of images before the weather turned, and after a brief wait, the clouds cleared to reveal the sun rising above the glen. The warm light illuminated the red sandstone of Rosslyn Castle, creating the perfect conditions for the final shots.
The resulting images were subsequently featured in The Herald and The Scotsman, with the latter publishing one of the photographs as a full double-page centre spread.
